...ten years!

...So on account that I have no new throwbacks from the wonderful world of trends and fashion, I thought I would dip into the archives (of Facebook) and give you a true Throwback Thursday.

don't remember what I was trying to do here... 2006
P.S. I miss that t-shirt!

Though it pains me to admit, I can't believe that it has been ten years since I was heading off to college.  Here are some awesome photos that I would much rather forget but I am sure in another ten years they will be fond memories!

who doesn't love a bowa? oh 2006...

#squadgoals  don't be too jealous!

oh to be young again and eat whatever you wanted!

well there goes our political careers! (yep Sidekick 3 there, I was cool once... you know with my orange Uggs!)

...Irish Memorial...

...the Irish Hunger Memorial is one of my favorite parts of Battery Park City.

It is a beautiful memorial to the hardships that the Irish people faced during the Irish Potato Famine.  This lovely sanctuary for flowers, plants, and birds, includes stones and vegetation native to the west coast of Ireland.  Additionally, the stone structure is an authentic Irish cottage of the 19th century.

I love living so close to such a lovely green space in this concrete jungle.  If you are downtown, it is definitely worth the visit!

*also seen in the movie "P.S. I Love You"

...polaroid...

...when I heard the polaroid camera was back, I thought it was the big clunky version from my very early childhood (i.e. Clueless).  But after a quick trip to Amazon, I saw the polaroid is completely reimagined into the "Fujifilm Instax."

There are many different styles and color options. I went the classic route, you know, to go along with the throwback theme.

Though not my preferred photography style, the polaroid offers a great quick option for prints.

...Dr. Scholl's...

...this spring, fashion history is truly repeating itself!

Dr. Scholl's sandals are back, and in great basic colors and patterns.

I don't know about you, but my pair from my first time around are not gonna cut it this season.  I remember the day that I begged my mom to get me bright teal Dr. Scholl's sandals form Urban Outfitters.  My older sister had just bought a pair and I was not going to survive another day without my own.

sadly, I do not have any photos of my original pair... but these are close to the ones I had.

While researching for this post, I discovered that these sandals were originally intended to be exercise sandals.  They toned your legs as you walked.

early 80's

So for my second go around with Dr. Scholl's sandals, I went with a blue gingham strap and a natural color wood sole.

I am obsessed with this flamingo pattern!

*as confirmed by my mom (who had an original pair back in the 70's), this pair does not have the "exclusive toe grip."

...Japan...

...we visited a few years ago.  We have a friend that was living in Japan and was moving back to the states soon.  My high school french can get us through most european countries, but Japan is a whole other thing! Having a fluent speaker, who knew their way around, made the trip more personal and interactive with the culture.
started the trip with yakitori, Japan's version of bar food
when our friend wasn't with us yet, we tried REALLY hard not the get lost, didn't always work
tuna bowls at 7am, freshly caught
they have trees... who would have thought?!
shopping was amazing!
tried out the latest exercises, I think I will stick to SoulCycle
some of the food was a little out of my comfort zone
though it was over 90 degrees everyday, we had lots of ramen
after a few days, McDonald's was a welcome sight
ice cream is a must for Japan in the summer!
beautiful gardens were everywhere

we later drove on that volcano in the background!
really nice beaches
it was a wonderful and unforgettable trip!
